A Poem for A November Birthday

I used to hate November,
it seemed so worn and bleak,
with nothing to adorn it
but October's yellow leaves.

The days so short, the nights so long,
a world turned dark and wet.
I used to hate November,
but I hadn't grown up yet.

Now I love November,
its grey skies feel so still.
The whole world takes a breather
before December's chill.

Long nights welcome candles,
blankets, gloves, and scarves,
and cozy little ones with books
to fill my thankful arms.

Thank you, Lord, for knowing
November is a patient friend,
and placing me upon the earth
a day before its end.
